Altán and CFE T&IT consolidate alliance to connect digitally backward communities
By Altán Redes
ALTÁN Redes -the Mexican company with the objective of increasing high-quality Internet access through more coverage and greater competition- signed a contract to provide its wholesale services to CFE Telecommunications and Internet for All, turning this state-owned company into a Red Compartida Virtual Mobile Operator.
This new alliance will make possible one of the largest projects to eliminate the digital divide and provide connectivity to rural communities in Mexico, which until now have been deprived of this fundamental factor for their social and economic development.
In its first stage, the project between the two companies includes the installation of 2,000 HBB (wireless fixed Internet) services at 1,000 Priority Attention Points, which will allow schools, clinics and integration centers in small rural communities to benefit from the connectivity of Altán Red Compartida.
In this way, ALTÁN Redes and CFE Telecom and Internet para Todos join forces to comply with the constitutional mandate of guaranteeing that all Mexicans, without exception, can exercise their right of access to Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), as well as to high quality telecommunications services through the Red Compartida.
