Altán to present Red Compartida pricing structure to regulator
Altán Redes must present all the services included in the commercial offer for Mexico's wholesale network, Red Compartida, to telecom watchdog IFT to ensure that they do not pose a risk to competition in the sector.
The proposal has to be approved before the regulator ensures that Altán complied with the coverage requirement of 30% of the population by March 31, 2018, said Fernando Borjón, director of telecom investment promotion organism Promtel, during the MVNOs Latin America event in Mexico City.
Of the aforementioned 30% coverage, 15% should comprise localities with populations under 10,000 inhabitants and 28 towns belonging to the Pueblos Mágicos tourism promotion program.
Meanwhile Altán's director of strategy, Nicolás Borges, said the Red Compartida will cover rural areas adjacent to Mexico's three major cities -Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey- where initial deployment of the network will take place.
Borges also said that Altán is assessing the possibility of using other operators' networks to offer national roaming. The executive said using Telcel's network is an option, since this telco is obliged to share its infrastructure as part of a set of asymmetric rues. He added that the consortium is open to talking to other operators.
The Altán executive praised the government's public infrastructure sharing program for telecom deployments. However, Borges said Altán will look into it once it has to reach 50-70% coverage.
