Mexico City, July 24, 2023.- The aluminum industry is in the process of adopting the latest technology to overcome the challenges that arise in the international arena, said the president of the National Chamber of the Aluminum Industry (Canalum), Julio César Martínez Rivas.

The aluminum industry in Mexico is moving towards the acquisition of state-of-the-art fully automated machinery; industry 4.0 systems (which combine advanced production techniques and operations with smart technology) to compete with the best in the world, said the representative of aluminum transformers, traders and recyclers in the country.

It established that Mexico has a developed aluminum supplier. "We have a strong presence of companies that are dedicated to generating semi-finished or secondary products from casting and extrusion."

He explained that 12,000 aluminum-related economic units are registered in Mexico, from micro to large companies. They are a broad spectrum in the market and companies dedicated to transforming, from ingots to raw products and marketing aluminum products.

He stressed that the aluminum sector represents a great opportunity for growth and employment because the market requires semi-finished products, such as sheets, plates, profiles, even aluminum parts for a host of sectors such as technology, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, automotive, construction, among others. "Aluminum enters many markets and the spectrum of products with that metal is enormous."

Martínez Rivas specified that the business opportunities for those involved in the aluminum sector extend to the international arena because Mexico maintains trade treaties and agreements with countries in Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America.

In this sense, he called on companies that transform, market or use aluminum products to participate in Canalum programs focused on economic reactivation and promotion of international trade; training, investment and innovation.

The national leader highlighted that Mexico has become the natural destination for the development of nearshoring , due to its proximity to the United States, which represents an excellent opportunity for those involved in the aluminum industry.

The Foreign Direct Investment received by Mexico, in the first quarter of 2023, with figures from the Ministry of Economy, grew 48%, compared to the same period in 2022. For this reason, we must take into account that new growth expectations are opened for the sector, he considered.
