AMLO: Bombardier wants to increase investments in Mexico

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) met on Tuesday with representatives of Canadian aircraft and transportation equipment manufacturer Bombardier to discuss the company’s plans in the country.

“They expressed their willingness to continue investing in Mexico … in the manufacturing of trains,” AMLO said via Twitter.

The meeting was attended by AMLO’s chief of staff Alfonso Romo; non-executive chairman of Bombardier Americas Carlos Eduardo Represas; Daniel Desjardins, chairman of Bombardier Transportation; and Elliot Lee Sander, CEO of Bombardier Transportation Americas, among others.

The president held a separate meeting on the same day with high-level representatives of French aerospace firm Safran.

“The companies came to express their confidence and support and to inform us about upcoming new investments,” AMLO told a press conference on Wednesday.

Shortly after taking office in December, AMLO said the team in charge of the Maya rail project was considering using trains being manufactured at Bombardier’s Ciudad Sahagún facility in Mexico’s Hidalgo state.

The contract to provide the rolling stock for the passenger and freight project is due to be put out to tender, and the Canadian firm has expressed interest.
