América Móvil set to close Brazil, El Salvador deals by Sept

América Móvil expects to complete the acquisition of Nextel Brasil and Telefónica's El Salvador unit by September, the Mexican telco said in a corporate presentation.

Carlos Slim-controlled América Móvil announced in March a deal to to buy 100% of Nextel Brasil from NII Holdings and its subsidiaries for US$905mn less debt.

With 3.3mn clients, Nextel is the fifth mobile player in Brazil, with 35MHz+20MHz of spectrum in São Paulo and 30MHz in Rio de Janeiro.

In January, the Mexican group announced an agreement to buy 99.3% of Telefónica's operation in El Salvador for US$315mn.

The operation is marketed under the Movistar brand, has 1.8mn clients and offers fixed and mobile services, including voice, data and pay TV.
