Anadarko cleared to advance Peru offshore exploration

Anadarko Perú's exploration plans received a boost with approval of the citizen participation plan for offshore block Z-1.

Information from the environmental certification service for sustainable investments (Senace), which greenlighted the plan, shows that six participatory workshops will be held before drafting the detailed EIS and six during assessment of the study.

Anadarko submitted the public engagement approval request in December.

The company is looking to drill five exploration and 10 confirmation wells on the acreage to determine the possible existence of natural gas and/or crude reserves.

Block Z-1 covers 680,519ha and is 40-60 nautical miles off the coast of north-central La Libertad region. Anadarko also holds neighboring exploration blocks Z-62 and Z-63.

BNamericas recently reported that Chevron aims to acquire a 35% stake in the three areas.
