Bogotá, March 10, 2020. The National Government, with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, announced its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 51%, as a commitment to combat climate change at the national level and global, within the framework of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) . This document incorporates the three components that have guided the work at the national, sectoral and territorial levels, such as the mitigation of Greenhouse Gases (GHG), adaptation to climate change, and finally the means of implementation as a transversal and instrumental component of the policies and actions for low-carbon, adaptive and climate-resilient development.

Under the leadership of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, the National Environmental Licensing Authority -ANLA, from its missionary commitment to conservation of the environment and fight against climate change, identified that the productive sectors that are subject to environmental licensing, have a opportunity to contribute in the process of quantification and reduction of greenhouse gases, as well as in reducing vulnerability to change and climate variability.

To add to the national strategy, ANLA has been building a portfolio of good practices in the construction, operation, dismantling and abandonment stages, which have to do, on the one hand, with adaptation to climate change, and on the other hand , with the mitigation of greenhouse gases that are applicable to projects, works or activities in the hydrocarbon, mining, energy, infrastructure and agrochemical sectors.

Among the measures identified are those related to compensation and forced investment of no less than 1%, the identification of good operational practices of the projects and technological improvements in matters of fuel saving and energy efficiency.

Rodrigo Suárez Castaño, general director of ANLA, indicated that “for ANLA it is an important challenge to contribute to this goal of the National Government, in this sense, we will include climate change measures in the management and control instruments in the hydrocarbon sector, mining, energy and infrastructure by 2022; to 2026, in the agrochemical sector and to 2030, all the sectors that are the competence of this Authority ”.

Finally, this exercise and the implementation of these measures have been built and socialized jointly with the different sectors and companies to achieve compliance, by 2030, with the goal of 51% of the National Government to reduce greenhouse gases, set by the President of the Republic, Iván Duque Márquez.
