On the morning of March 11, the Antioquia Governor's Office, in collaboration with the Colombian Hydrogen Chamber of ANDI-Naturgas, organized a working breakfast to promote the work carried out by the Antioquia hydrogen hub, within the framework of the diversification of the department's energy matrix. Representatives from environmental authorities such as Cornare and the metropolitan area of the Aburra Valley, energy sector companies, universities, and the Ministry of Mines participated in the event.
The meeting, which took place in a collaborative environment between the public and private sectors, allowed for an exchange of ideas on the challenges and opportunities that hydrogen presents in relation to environmental sustainability. Key topics discussed included the need for social ownership of the hydrogen value chain and the importance of building human capacity among environmental authorities for the proper management of this emerging ecosystem.
The event also outlined a roadmap for joint work toward 2025, taking into account the progress made in 2024 and the new needs identified through the dialogue among participants. In particular, the importance of developing a pilot project to bring hydrogen closer to the public was highlighted, which will contribute to increasing awareness and acceptance of this innovative energy source among local communities.
One of the main conclusions of the meeting was the need to form a working group to address the socio-environmental aspects of hydrogen, which will allow for aligning efforts and advancing the consolidation of sustainable development in the sector.
"These types of initiatives are essential for leveraging the regional development of hydrogen in Colombia. Not only do they drive the energy transition toward cleaner sources, but they also contribute to generating employment, strengthening regional competitiveness, and positioning Antioquia as a national and international benchmark in innovation and sustainability," said one of the event's organizers.
Strengthening the hydrogen ecosystem in Antioquia and its hub is crucial to achieving the region's sustainability and economic development goals and marks an important milestone in the country's energy transition process.
