Argentina adds 5 provinces to US$5.9bn infrastructure plan

Five provinces have been added to Argentina’s 435bn-peso (US$5.92bn) infrastructure plan to reactivate public works as the federal government allocated 19.7bn pesos to works in Misiones, Córdoba, Chaco, La Pampa and Salta.

The government had previously allocated 22bn pesos for Corrientes, Buenos Aires, Santa Cruz, San Juan and Entre Ríos.

“In the four years that preceded our government, there was a decrease in public works investment equal to 1.6 percentage points of GDP, and reached its lowest level since 2004,” said economy minister Martín Guzmán at the presentation of the new investments.

BNamericas looks at some of the projects that will benefit from the incorporation of the five provinces into the infrastructure plan.

In the case of Misiones, the government will invest 5bn pesos in the widening of a 13km stretch of national route No. 12.

In Córdoba, the government will fully finance at a cost of 7.8bn pesos an expansion of a wastewater treatment plant (pictured) in the province’s namesake capital.

Chaco will receive 5.1bn pesos to improve an 11km stretch of national route No. 11, a project which had been halted during the previous administration.

The government will invest 1.5bn pesos in Salta to reactivate construction of a wastewater treatment plant and an aqueduct that was halted last year.

Another project that was halted in 2019 that will now resume is a 304mn-peso improvement of a section of route No. 35 near La Pampa’s capital Santa Rosa.
