Argentina reports its highest energy surplus in 18 years

In December, the country recorded a surplus in its energy trade balance of USD 852 million, thus accumulating USD 5.668 billion in the year thanks to the growth of exports and a significant reduction in imports.

During 2024, fuel and energy exports grew by 22.3%, reaching USD 9,677 million. This value represents 12.1% of Argentina's total exports. In addition, the country to which the most energy was exported was Chile, for USD 2,844 million, 74.1% more than in 2023.

In turn, fuel and lubricant imports fell 49.4% year-on-year in this period, totaling USD 4,009 million.

In particular, in December, exports totaled USD 1,032 million, of which USD 5,473 million were related to the sale of petroleum oils. Meanwhile, imports totaled USD 180 million, which means a drop of 42.9% compared to the same month in 2023.
