Argentina watch: Hydrogen policy, capital controls, gas prices, climate change cabinet
Federal and provincial officials, along with academics, private sector players and other stakeholders, met in Argentina’s Río Negro province on Monday to put green hydrogen under the spotlight.
The aim of the event was to advance state policy and build consensus on priorities, strategy and opportunities, the government’s economic and social council said.
Argentina is eyeing a hydrogen-exporting industry.
In the framework of a renewable energy and energy efficiency bill submitted to congress, production minister Matías Kulfas said officials were working on associated rules to promote investment in green hydrogen. Work on construction of a 2030 national hydrogen strategy is also underway.
A multibillion-dollar green hydrogen project is planned for Río Negro, which has devised its own hydrogen strategy.

Argentina’s most important hydrocarbons-producing province – Neuquén – is working to establish a dedicated climate change cabinet.
As an initial step in the process, an inter-ministerial working group, focused on policy coordination in the sphere of climate change adaption and mitigation, held its first meeting.
Officials will compile data and work on an associated action plan, the provincial government said in a statement.
The move stems from Neuquén’s adhesion in 2019 to national law 27,520, which formally established a national climate change cabinet.
