
Argentina’s mining sector posts strong export growth
Argentina’s mining exports grew 19.3% year-on-year to US$2.46bn in January-October.
In October alone, exports were up 9% y-o-y, figures from the country’s mining department show.
Silver and gold exports increased 21% and 2.3% in the month to US$74.9mn and US$159mn, respectively.
“The gold mining industry in Argentina is thriving and growing, with very tangible positive contributions to the overall economy regarding the creation of well-paying jobs locally, tax revenue as wells as business growth along the supply chain,” Argentine business daily El Cronista reported Terry Heymann, CFO of the World Gold Council, as saying in a recent report.
The sale of lithium to international markets reached US$18.7mn, representing an increase of 5.2%.
With mining representing 85.2% of its exports in October, Catamarca held on to its top spot among provinces with large mining exports.
Next came Santa Cruz with 75.6%, followed by San Juan (72.5%) and Jujuy (68.4%).
