Argentina’s president urges provinces to boost mining

Argentina’s President Alberto Fernández has called on provincial governments to boost mining. 

“We must encourage those who have money abroad to bring it and put it into Argentina to produce, providing work and growth,” he said during a meeting with authorities in Tucumán province. 

During the meeting to discuss government decentralization, Fernández suggested moving the country’s mining department from Buenos Aires to a mining province. 

Last week, Fernández appointed Fernanda Ávila as mining secretary, replacing Alberto Hensel, who was in office for two years and became chief of staff of San Juan provincial government.
