Argentine province to submit 50MW wind farm in RenovAr tender

The state-owned energy company of Argentina's Mendoza province, Emesa, will submit a 50MW wind project in the RenovAr Ronda 2 renewable energy tender.

The project is an expansion of the 50MW El Sosneado farm awarded to Emesa in the RenovAr Ronda 1.5 tender in late 2016, the provincial government said in a statement.

A second eventual expansion bringing the project's installed capacity to 150MW is also planned.

RenovAr Ronda 2 seeks to award 1,200MW of clean energy capacity, including 550MW of wind.

THERMAL PLANT STARTUP

In related news, Argentine state news service Télam reported that the 60MW Río Tercero II thermal plant in Córdoba province has begun injecting energy into the SADI national grid.

The project sponsor is SoEnergy, which in February acquired a 40% stake in Canada's Stoneway Energy, which is developing a 686MW portfolio of thermal projects in Argentina.

In addition to the Stoneway portfolio, "SoEnergy has two other 60MW projects in Salta and Córdoba [Río Tercero II] and several smaller plants in operation for 150MW," SoEnergy said at the time.

Río Tercero II is backed by a PPA awarded through a public tender for thermal capacity in 2016.
