Arianespace and Astrium sign US$2.76bn contract for 18 new rockets
French firms Arianespace and EADS satellite system specialist Astrium have signed a deal worth more than 2bn euros (US$2.76bn) for 18 new Ariane 5 rockets set to be launched from 2017, according to an Arianespace press release.
The contract also signifies that Arianespace's clients are able to use the Guiana Space Center until the end of the decade.
Adding to those launchers still to be built from an order of 35 in 2009, the newest contract will bring the total number of rockets under construction to 38.
Long-lead items for the newest batch of rockets were already in the process of being procured after a September 17 framework contract between the two companies.
