Ascenty buys land for new São Paulo datacenter

Brazil's Ascenty, the largest colocation company in Latin America, acquired over 47,000m² of land to build a new datacenter in the São Paulo metropolitan region.

The site is in Osasco, where the company just announced that its 24th facility has gone live.

This newly launched datacenter – dubbed São Paulo 4 – has started operations with 5.5MW of a 9MW projected capacity, Ascenty said in a statement.

The company has six other datacenters in the same area, four in operation and two under construction.

The company plans to use the land it has just acquired to build more than one datacenter. However, the exact number of sites, the date on which construction will start and the investment amounts are still in the planning stage, according to the company.

The land is one of the last areas in Greater São Paulo with high availability of energy, said Ascenty.

Furthermore, the location hosts the regional Network Access Point (NAP) and has direct access to an internet exchange traffic point serving São Paulo and Campinas.

It is also interconnected to the submarine cable station in Praia Grande through 5,000km of Ascenty's proprietary fiber optic network.

The company said that its expansion is in line with its strategy to push the portfolio toward the enterprise market, which includes the technology, telecom, finance, retail, agribusiness and health sectors.

The company has seen 50% growth in the number of its customers in the financial sector in the last two years, according to the Ascenty.

“Our goal is to expand the operation and meet the growing demand for world-class datacenters and excellent connectivity in the São Paulo region, especially for banks, investment funds, fintechs and means of payment companies,” said Marcos Siqueira, Ascenty's VP of operations.

“Four of the five largest banks in Brazil already work with Ascenty, either in colocation or connectivity, and the financial sector one of the three growing fastest in the company,” according to Siqueira.
