Ascenty starts environmental approval process for new Chile datacenter

Brazilian company Ascenty has submitted a datacenter project to Chile's environmental impact review system (SEIA) with a planned investment of US$140mn.

Called Data Hall Quilicura, the project plans to convert industrial warehouses into a datacenter that will provide services to companies both locally and internationally.

The project includes a total land area of 54,998m2 with 24,757m2 for buildings. It will have 30 emergency generator sets, an oil storage tank, six data rooms, 21 air conditioning chillers, storage warehouses and fire control tanks, according to the project description filed with SEIA.

Expected to begin in September 2025, the construction and rough-in phase will take at least 18 months.

The datacenter will be built in a single phase and have useful life of approximately 27 years.

Ascenty currently operates two datacenters in Chile, both in capital Santiago.

Located on a 7,000m2 area, Santiago 1 has 10MW of capacity, while Santiago 2 occupies 22,000m2 with 16MW capacity, according to Ascenty's website.

Santiago 2 was inaugurated in 2022 and its capacity is projected to reach 31MW.

In October last year, the company secured US$170mn in a new round of financing to support its operations in Chile.

Ascenty is owned by US digital infrastructure investment fund Digital Realty and Brookfield Infrastructure Partners.
