Ascenty taps NUV to boost LatAm-Europe data transmission

Ascenty hired Brazilian interconnectivity provider NUV to improve data transmission between its Latin American datacenters and sites in other geographies, notably in Europe.

The partnership, made public on Monday, started operating earlier this year in Brazil and involves gradual expansions to other markets during 2023, according to a press release.

Financial and contractual terms were not disclosed.

With the partnership, customers access latency of 99ms for data transmission between São Paulo and Madrid, for example. Average latency on this stretch is 220ms, according to the company.

The partnership is due to be extended to the datacenters in Vinhedo, Campinas and Fortaleza. Eventually, it will be expanded to Santiago de Chile, Rio de Janeiro, Querétaro (Mexico) and Bogotá, as soon as Ascenty's Colombian datacenters start operations.

Ascenty’s Bogotá 01 is expected to begin operations this year, while Bogotá 02 is scheduled to open in 2024.

Overall, Ascenty has 34 datacenters in operation and/or construction in Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Colombia, interconnected by 5,000km of proprietary fiber optics networks.

NUV is present at over 30 internet exchange points (IXPs) worldwide, through its solutions NetIX, Peer-1 and TupIX, which include NAP of Americas (US), Equinix's FR2 (Germany) and the Sofia Data Center (Bulgaria).

“With these products, we guarantee the lowest latency for data exchanges between the Americas and Europe. NetIX connects more than 30 traffic exchange points in the world, between Brazil, the US and Europe; through TupiX we also connect all of Latin America in a single exchange point from large urban centers; and with Peer-1 we will be able to take our customers to the most important peerings around the world,” NUV CEO Fabricio Costa said.

Founded by Costa in 2017, NUV reports presence at Equinix's Brazilian datacenters (SP1, SP2, SP3, SP4 and RJ2), as well as at the sites of Angola Cables, Mob, NetBotanic, Ativas and Globo (Piemonte Holding).

The company also covers São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Espirito Santo, Paraná and Bahia with fiber.
