The National Authority of Public Services (ASEP) applied the highest and historical fine in terms of deficiency in the quality of the provision of electrical distribution service, for the sum of 14 million balboas, revealed Zelmar Rodríguez Crespo in her capacity as nominated general administrator.

According to the information, the Electrical Distribution Company Metro-Oeste, SA (EDEMET) and the Electrical Distribution Company Chiriquí, SA (EDECHI), both of the Naturgy group, failed to comply with the current service quality standards regarding electricity.

By virtue of the regulatory exercise, the ASEP orders the company EDECHI and EDEMET to apply a credit to their affected clients for non-compliance with the quality of the service, in the order of 3.6 million balboas and 10.7 million balboas respectively.

Rodríguez Crespo warns all concessionaire companies to improve the quality of the provision of public services for the benefit of Panamanians.

“We are working for a comprehensive transformation of public services in the country,” said the nominated administrator, while expressing her commitment to tour the country.

The ASEP is an autonomous body that controls, regulates, orders and supervises the provision of public services for the supply of drinking water, sanitary sewage, electricity, telecommunications, radio and television, as well as the transmission and distribution of natural gas.
