Bnamericas
Mexican airport concessionaire Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (Asur) will invest some US$50mn at Cancun airport, El Universal reported. Works will include a 2.4km second runway that could be extended to 3.5km in the coming years and a new business passenger area, the paper quoted Asur president Kjeld Binger as saying. Binger said another project entails building a new cargo terminal aimed at turning the airport into an international logistics center. Asur, which operates nine airports in southern and southeast Mexico, recorded throughput of 901,647 passengers for the 12-month period through September this year, a 12.9% increase over the same period last year. The figure includes 619,962 passengers (a 15.2% increase) from Cancun alone. The ITA consortium, led by airport operator CPH, operates Asur.
