The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) completed the establishment of four work groups to promote the mass use of natural gas. These tables are designed to address the key challenges related to the expansion and promotion of natural gas in Lima and in different areas of the country.

The work groups that focus on essential areas for the development of natural gas in the country are: Massification of Natural Gas in Non-Concession Areas, Development of Natural Gas in the Transportation Sector, Energy Security and Massification of Natural Gas in Concession Areas.

The Peruvian Hydrocarbons Society (SPH) has presented concrete proposals at each table that reflect a solid commitment to the transformation and improvement of the Peruvian energy sector. Outstanding proposals include improving the regulations for urban qualifications, making the regulations of the TUO of the Distribution Regulations more flexible, and reducing the difficulties for the connectivity of new consumers.

Likewise, the improvement of rates and the allocation of subsidies for the laying of natural gas networks were proposed, with a focus on the strengthening and development of the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE). Another important aspect is the development of infrastructure at the national level to manage natural gas for vehicles (NGV and CNG) and the promotion of the relaunch of the conversion of public sector vehicles. It was also exposed that natural gas is a key input in the development of petrochemical poles that boost the economy and the generation of employment in the country.

The collaborative interaction of various actors along the natural gas value chain promises to trigger a significant drive at each work table to experience the tangible benefits of this energy source. From access to energy to industrial development and promotion of clean energy, natural gas is expected to contribute substantially to the progress and general well-being of the population.

From the Peruvian Hydrocarbons Society (SPH), we welcome the creation of these work groups as a vital step towards a more sustainable energy future. We call for this momentum to remain constant and translate into concrete actions and solutions that promote the development of natural gas in Peru.

The potential of Peruvian natural gas to be a clean, efficient and competitive source of energy is undeniable. We are convinced that natural gas will become a fundamental ally to improve the quality of life of citizens, providing energy access to vulnerable populations and contributing to the improvement of air quality, all while promoting progress and well-being in the country.
