Barbados tops fast public Wi-Fi

In the race to have the fastest public Wi-Fi, one Caribbean nation is leading the Americas pack. Barbados had an average download speed of 11.1Mbps in 2015, 11^th best in the world and tops in the region.

The chart has been topped by Lithuania for the last two years, most recently with a 16.1Mbps average. In 2014 Canada and the US came in 19^th and 20^th, respectively. Last year, Canada was the only other Americas country in the top 20.

Barbados has an internet penetration of 78.5%, one of the highest in the Americas, according to 4G Americas Latin America and the Caribbean director José Otero. Barbados ranked 7^th in the list, with Bermuda sporting the highest penetration in the continent at 97.75%.
