Barbados tops fast public Wi-Fi

In the race to have the fastest public Wi-Fi, one Caribbean nation is leading the Americas pack. Barbados had an average download speed of 11.1Mbps in 2015, 11th best in the world and tops in the region.

The chart has been topped by Lithuania for the last two years, most recently with a 16.1Mbps average. In 2014 Canada and the US came in 19th and 20th, respectively. Last year, Canada was the only other Americas country in the top 20.

Barbados has an internet penetration of 78.5%, one of the highest in the Americas, according to 4G Americas Latin America and the Caribbean director José Otero. Barbados ranked 7th in the list, with Bermuda sporting the highest penetration in the continent at 97.75%.
