The Basque water agency (URA) will implement a technical cooperation program for water and sanitation in El Salvador and Costa Rica.

More specifically, the agency and the water utilities serving the two countries, Anda in El Salvador and AyA in Costa Rica, will exchange knowledge and best practices to contribute to capacity building, URA said in a release.

The program will also serve to improve the water and sanitation infrastructure in Amoros and Yucuaiquín, two municipalities in the Salvadoran deparment of La Unión.

The program will be carried out over the next three years, requiring investments of 1.85mn euros (US$2.1mn), of which 1.36mn euros will be provided by the Basque agency.

Other agencies such as the Basque development cooperation agency (GLEA), the government and water utility of Vitoria municipality, among others, will also participate in the initiative.
