Bauxilum obtains ISO 9001 certification

Venezuelan bauxite and alumina producer Bauxilum has received ISO 9001:2000 certification for quality of service and administrative systems granted by the quality regulation and certification fund (Fondonorma), a company spokesperson told BNamericas. "ISO 9001 certification gives us a national as well as an international guarantee in regards to negotiating with clients, attracting more clients and better satisfying the needs of current clients," he said. Other companies in the mining sector like Venalum, Carbonorca are already certified, giving the Venezuelan aluminum sector a better standing in the international market. "Our concern is for total quality," the spokesperson added. Bauxilum operates Los Pijiguaos mine of 6Mt/y in Bolívar state in the southeast of Venezuela and an alumina plant with an installed capacity of 2Mt/y in the Guayana region. Ninety-nine percent of Bauxilum belongs to state-owned heavy industry holding CVG, while the remaining 1% is the property of the Alusuisse Lonza Holding group.
