Belize begins process to incorporate battery energy storage
Plans to incorporate battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Belize have advanced with a consultancy call to help implement the technology.
The government issued a request for expressions of interest (EOIs) to support the procurement, supply, installation, operation and maintenance of a 40MW BESS.
The consultant will accompany the Ministry of Economic Development’s (MED) central executing unit and the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics and E-governance during the project.
MED will accept EOIs until August 8, according to the request, which is available in the Documents box in the top-right corner of the screen. A shortlist of eligible firms will then be prepared.
The work falls under a World Bank-financed renewable integration and resilient energy system program for the country.
BNamericas previously reported on state-controlled Belize Electricity’s proposal for a 40MW BESS project as part of actions to improve dispatch.
