Belize eyeing solar power build-out potential
State-controlled Belize Electricity (BEL) launched bidding to conduct a solar photovoltaic market study.
The power utility said it is re-evaluating and re-engineering its business models to integrate the renewable energy into its portfolio.
BEL highlights that several startups are offering green energy solutions such as rooftop solar and that larger projects are planned.
Proposals are due by September 22, according to procurement information.
The company’s 20-year least cost expansion plan recommends deployment of 40MW of battery storage to support the incorporation of intermittent sources.
