Biogas-powered river operations envisioned for Paraguay

Paraguay river transport services company Riverpar is looking for financing to incorporate biogas into its operations.

Information from the IDB’s private sector lending arm IDB Invest shows that Riverpar has requested funds from the multilateral lender.

The project entails building and operating a pushboat that would run on biogas and the construction of a biogas plant in a second phase, a site and technology for which have yet to be defined.

The proposed transaction entails syndicated and financing amounts for US$10mn and US$25mn, respectively. IDB Invest’s board is due to consider the request in August.

Riverpar is part of the Atria group and operates along the Paraná-Paraguay waterway.
