Blue Marine close to completing 30% of fiber rollout in Petrobras’ Campos basin
Blue Marine Telecom has completed approximately 30% of the deployment of the main trunk of a fiber optic network for Brazilian state-run oil company Petrobras in the Campos basin.
By the beginning of December, 124km of a total of 448km of cables had been installed, the Zmax Blue Ship Group company said on its website.
The cable arrived in Brazil in August from China. The supplier is HMN Tech, formerly called Huawei Marine Networks.
The installation of the main trunk is being carried out by Blue Marine using the specialized vessel Bold Maverick.
When completed, the network will provide high-speed, secure and reliable data transmission between 12 offshore oil and gas production platforms and two onshore stations, one in Quissamã in Rio de Janeiro, and another in Anchieta in Espírito Santo state, the company said.
The system is due to be in operation next year.
Blue Marine joins International Cable Protection Committee
In related news, Blue Marine Telecom said it formally joined the International Cable Protection Committee (ICPC).
Founded in 1958 and based in the UK, ICPC is a global organization dedicated to protecting international submarine cables used for data and power transmission against natural and man-made damage, which can include sabotage.
The ICPC currently has more than 220 members from around 70 countries, sharing information such as environmental data and standards, international legislation and treaties, and industry best practices.
Blue Marine is the only company listed as Brazilian that is a member of the ICPC.
Other Latin American or Caribbean companies that are members include Mexico’s América Móvil, Aruba’s Setar, Jamaica’s Digicel, Surinam’s Telesur and Colombia’s Energia Integral Andina.
GlobeNet, owned by Brazil’s V.tal, is also a member, although it is listed as being a US company.
Other members include Telefónica, Telxius, ASN, HMN, EllaLink, Arelion, Telecom Italia Sparkle, Google, Meta and Infinera, among others.
