Blue Marine concludes main fiber rollout for Petrobras in Santos basin

Blue Marine Telecom has completed the main deployment of an optical fiber connectivity network project for Brazilian oil giant Petrobras in the Santos basin.

At the end of March, the company finished installing the system's trunk network and interconnected, through more than 800km of submarine cables, two landing stations in Rio de Janeiro and Santos.

“This way, when the installation of all optical umbilicals between the main trunk and 13 offshore oil and gas production units is completed, they will have a high-capacity security and reliability system for communication and data transmission,” Blue Marine said in an update posted on its website.

The project’s full implementation is expected to be completed by year-end.

The company is now installing the equipment, cables and umbilicals that will connect the main trunk with the offshore platforms, in an operation that involves activities at depths sometimes exceeding 2,500m, it said.

Blue Marine Telecom is part of the Zmax Blue Ship Group. For the current project, the company is relying on another of Zmax's subsidiaries, Blue Amazon.

Implementation of the main trunk was preceded by the interconnection in June of the Praia Grande station to the anchoring point on the beach and to the pre-lay shore end, being the first kilometers of submarine cable installed in the shallow water section, said Blue Marine.

In the beginning of September, the company advanced with the direct shore end, which consisted of pulling the submarine cable directly from the main vessel to the beach, at Praia da Macumba beach, in Rio de Janeiro. There, the cable connected to another terminal station.
