Blue Marine Telecom to begin offshore Brazil fiber roll-out in November
Blue Marine Telecom will begin installing the main trunk of Brazil’s Campos basin submarine fiber optic network in November to interconnect federal oil company Petrobras' production units in the region, the Zmax Blue Ship Group company responsible for the project said in a statement.
The roughly 500km of cable arrived in Brazil in August from China. The supplier is HMN Tech, formerly Huawei Marine Networks.
All the material has passed through the customs process, been released and is stored and ready for use, said Blue Marine.
The Bold Maverick vessel that shipped the fiber from China will also be responsible for the deployment.
The optical transmission equipment, known as DWDM, that will be part of the system has already been manufactured, tested and sent to Brazil. The DWDM gear is supplied by Huawei.
As first reported by BNamericas, the project was granted an installation permit by environmental watchdog Ibama in September.
The Campos basin project also encompasses construction of a cable landing station in Anchieta, Espírito Santo state, and the expansion of one in Barra do Furado, Rio de Janeiro.
The stations will be connected through the fiber to 12 offshore oil and gas exploration and production units.
Blue Marine expects the project to be operational next year.
