The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) approved financing worth R$35.7 million for the Quality Digital project to develop strategic AI solutions to meet the demands of customers in the most significant sectors in Brazil, such as finance, banking, retail, industry and mining.

Within the scope of BNDES Mais Inovação, the initiative aims to integrate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to create more effective digital solutions.

The company's innovation plan includes the development of two digital platforms: QAI Decipher – R&D that aims to simplify the analysis and extraction of data from complex documents; and QAI Stockpile Manager – R&D that, through the use of artificial intelligence technology (Deep Learning), RPA (Remote Process Automation) and APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), seeks more effective and reliable methods for measuring stocks in 3D in the open air.

In the financial, banking, retail and industrial sectors, the initiative aims to optimize processes involving use cases such as foreign exchange operations, financing contracts, governance and auditing processes, investment management, back-office processes, among others. The solution interprets highly complex documents contextually, using a taxonomic dictionary, extracts data based on the discovery of correlations, categorizes transactions and documents, considers guidelines from regulatory entities and presents a prescriptive dashboard for users to make decisions.

In the case of foreign exchange operations focused on the banking sector, the solution checks whether the operations comply with the Central Bank's requirements, whether there is coherence between the type of transaction intended and the banking channel, as well as increasing the governance of the foreign exchange process, in order to consider the different customer service channels and documentation formats.

In the Mining sector, the possibilities for applying this innovation allow measuring the dunes (piles) of accumulated materials under different storage conditions, at any time, using drones with onboard computer vision. It also monitors information on transported volumes – stock in transit – using drones with 3D geodetic interpretation (stereoscopic vision) and makes decisions on stock movement using a prescriptive dashboard. The program includes the possibility of calculating losses in the movement of volumes, comparing topographic measurements with the weighing of scales.

“The operation approved by BNDES has a potential impact on the generation and maintenance of qualified jobs, on the gain in competitiveness and on the improvement of digital processes of national companies. Projects aligned with the objectives of President Lula's industrial policy, which seeks to apply digital transformation in the industrial sector to increase productivity”, explains BNDES president Aloizio Mercadante.

For José Luís Gordon, director of Productive Development, Innovation and Foreign Trade at BNDES, innovation is one of the pillars of the Mais Produção Plan, the financing arm of Nova Indústria Brasil. “The resources from BNDES Mais Inovação will be essential for the development of new solutions in the company’s technological platform, based on Artificial Intelligence. In addition, the investments will enable the maintenance and creation of qualified jobs, gains in competitiveness and improvement of processes for the company and its customers”, he explained.

Rodrigo Torres, CFO of Quality Digital, highlighted that "BNDES' support is crucial for Brazilian companies to innovate and compete in the global IT market. BNDES' financing gives us the opportunity to accelerate our innovation projects, ensuring that Quality Digital continues to be a reference in solutions connected to our clients' businesses."
