Bogotá cable car system set to open in 2018

The mayor of Colombian capital Bogotá, Enrique Peñalosa, announced that works on the Ciudad Bolívar-San Cristóbal cable car system in the city will be finished during the first half of 2018.

So far 18% of the works on the TransMiCable development have been completed, according to the city government's website.

The works are costing a total of 209mn peso (US$7.2mn) and the construction contract was awarded to the consortium Cable Bogotá, comprised by Doppelmayr Colombia (50%), ICEIN Ingenieros Constructores (25%) and Constructora Colpatria (25%).

It is expected that TransMiCable will benefit over 700,000 people in the Bogotá districts of Ciudad Bolívar and San Cristóbal. The 3.3km system will have four stations with forecast capacity of 3,600 passengers per hour.

This project is part of Phase 4 of the integrated public transport system (SITP) in the Colombian capital. After the cable car system is completed, operations will be the responsibility of SITP operator Transmilenio.
