Bogotá launches tender for Transmilenio bus system

The urban development institute (IDU) of Colombian capital Bogotá launched a 97bn-peso (US$26mn) tender to build a new bus yard for the city’s Transmilenio system.

The project entails the construction of a 47,786m2 complex in the Usme district, which will have facilities for bus maintenance, administrative offices and capacity for 143 buses, tender documents show.

Technical bids will be opened on November 23, while the opening of economic bids will take place on December 21.

The ongoing extension of the Caracas corridor will increase Transmilenio’s fleet in Usme and the neighboring Tunal neighborhood, creating the need for a bus yard in the area, according to the project’s preliminary study.

The new yard is expected to benefit 245,000 residents, according to the study, which was drafted by IDU and Consorcio Troncal Caracas (INYPSA Colombia, Hace Ingenieros and Jorge Fadiño).

The tender documents can be seen at procurement system SECOP II under IDU-LP-SGI-021-2020.
