As of November 30, 2024, the overall progress of this major work is 44.45%.

The country's largest infrastructure project is making significant progress that will change the face of the city and improve the quality of life of its inhabitants.

This was announced this morning by Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán, from Villavicencio Avenue and Carrera 91, in the southwest of the city, in the heart of the work.

“When we work as a team, the works in the city advance. As of November 30, Line 1 of the Bogotá Metro is 44.45% complete. The progress of the project as a whole includes the concession contract, the early transfer of networks by the Metro company and the District, and the land management,” explained the capital's leader in detail.

Galán added that: “We have made progress of around 15.5% during the first 11 months of this year. The most advanced is the concession contract. When we arrived it was around 19%. Today it is already at 36.99% and we are very happy about this because this will allow us to advance the milestones that are contemplated to be met.”

Line 1 of the Bogotá Metro has already completed the first kilometer of viaduct, as follows: Technical Branch in Bosa: 450 meters; Gibraltar Park: 210 meters; between Station 1 and Guayacanes Avenue: 314 meters and Primero de Mayo Avenue with 41st Street South: 66 meters; for a total of 1,040 meters.

For his part, Wuyu, Senior Advisor of Metro Line 1, said that “although the launching beams have good performance, we are going to double resources so that the project continues to advance.

The launching beams will work 24 hours a day with different colored lighting to illuminate Christmas in the construction corridor.”

The manager of the Bogotá Metro Company, Leónidas Narváez, said that “thanks to the people of Bogotá for their patience with the works, we are not wasting a minute to ensure that in March 2028 we will all improve our quality of life with the entry into operation of the Bogotá Metro.”

Important milestones in the construction of Line 1 of the Bogotá Metro

6,600 tons (120 kilometers) of rails arrived in the city of Cartagena from China, 96 kilometers of rails correspond to the viaduct and 24 kilometers will be installed in the workshop yard.

In the last week of November, trucks began to arrive at the workshop yard. The concessionaire increased the number of launching beams needed to lift the segments (U-beams).

At this time, the project has 6 launching beams. Five are in operation, and one more is being certified and assembled: Three are located on the technical branch between the Patio Taller and Station 1; one is at the inter-station 2, between Station 1 and Station 2; one is between Station 4 and Station 5 in front of Compensar de Kennedy (Av. 1 de Mayo) and the sixth is at Sena Station in the process of being certified.

Two more launching beams have also arrived in the country, arriving in Bogotá last week. The goal is to have them all in operation between April and May 2025, which will increase the pace of construction.

The Metro will save 2 hours a day between Bosa and Chapinero, which will take 27 minutes to travel between Portal Américas and Calle 72. It will save 19 million gallons of fossil fuels a year and will stop emitting nearly 171,000 tons of CO2 a year. This is equivalent to having a forest of 3,420,000 trees. It will have water recirculation for use in the stations.

The District delivered and put into operation the northern bridge of Avenida 68 with 1º de Mayo (called “Octopus”), one of the most important works of the Metro that will allow the connection with the TransMilenio trunk line, the SITP, mixed traffic, bicycles and pedestrians. The second bridge on the south side is expected to be delivered in December 2025.
