Bolivia introduces new gasoline to the domestic market: Premium Plus and Ultra Premium 100

UCOM MHE 07-08-2024.- The national government encourages the consumption of two types of gasoline in Bolivia: Premium Plus and Ultra Premium 100. Marking an important evolution in the country's fuel sector, to improve efficiency and adapt to international trends, stated the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energy, Franklin Molina.
He explained that Premium Plus gasoline has an octane rating of 95, compared to the current special gasoline, which has 85 octane and was the standard in Bolivia for more than 25 years. Gasoline octane refers to its ability to resist premature detonation in the engine, which influences vehicle performance.
Mid-range and high-end vehicles, which are typically designed to run on higher octane fuels, will especially benefit from this new option. The Premium Plus will offer greater energy efficiency and power, he added.
On the other hand, Molina pointed out that Ultra Premium 100 gasoline has an octane rating close to 100, which makes it an even more advanced option and suitable for high-performance vehicles. This gasoline will be sold at Bs 6.73 per liter and is designed to offer optimal performance in state-of-the-art engines.
Likewise, Premium Plus gasoline will have a price of Bs 5.71 per liter. Although these prices are more aligned with international costs, which abroad range between Bs 12 and Bs 14 per liter, both types of gasoline will continue to be subsidized by the government to maintain an accessible cost structure for citizens.
The implementation of the new prices and the introduction of the Ultra Premium 100 will take place this week, the Minister anticipated. Service stations will have to make significant adjustments, such as installing exclusive dispensers for Ultra Premium 100, to be able to offer both types of gasoline, he said.
