Bolivia is betting on electromobility with a network of more than 10 electric charging stations in operation

The following is a machine translation of a Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy release

In order to diversify the energy matrix, the Government is promoting the use of electric vehicles as part of the transition to clean energy. The country has more than 10 electric charging stations in the cities of La Paz, Oruro, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz that serve the growing consumption of the vehicle fleet.

Electric car charging stations are charging stations for electric vehicles. They work in a similar way to a traditional gas station, but instead of supplying fuels such as gasoline or diesel, they provide electrical energy to recharge the batteries of electric cars.

These charging stations for electric vehicles are the result of a set of policies and incentives promoted to encourage the acquisition and use of sustainable cars. With the aim of diversifying the energy matrix, in April of this year, the Government enacted Supreme Decree 5142, which establishes measures to promote the use of electric vehicles within the framework of the transition to clean energy.

The Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy promotes electromobility with fundamental regulations, such as Supreme Decree 4539, of July 2021, which grants tax and financial incentives for the manufacture, assembly, and importation of electric and hybrid vehicles, and ecological agricultural machinery.

In addition, Supreme Decree 4477 promotes distributed energy generation, making it easier for electric car owners to install chargers in their homes and generate their own electricity. In support of these measures, the financial system has launched "green loans" with favorable conditions for the acquisition of eco-friendly vehicles.

The National Electricity Company (ENDE) installed 11 electric charging stations on the country's main roads, which offered free charging services until 2023. At the same time, the Electricity and Nuclear Technology Authority (AETN) implemented regulations that establish the technical and safety standards for these stations, in addition to defining tariffs and maximum marketing prices.

The advancement of electric mobility in Bolivia reflects a global trend towards the adoption of more sustainable technologies. The infrastructure of electric charging stations not only modernizes transportation, but also contributes to reducing dependence on fossil fuels, marking an important step towards a cleaner and more efficient future.
