Bolivia reactivates US$270mn of halted roadworks in 8 months

Bolivia’s public works ministry has invested over 1.85bn bolivianos (US$268mn) in reactivating 303 roadworks projects since President Luis Arce took office last November.

Despite the restart of works on these initiatives, this only represents 32% of the projects the government is aiming to resume.

The works had been stopped “by the coup of [former interim president] Jeanine Áñez,” public works minister Edgar Montaño said in a release.

Some 139 of the reactivated projects involve building new roads, while 147 entail maintenance works, 16 are for repairs and one is an upgrade to an existing road.

“Our president has authorized us to continue keep injecting economic resources into all of the companies that meet the technical specifications,” Montaño added, saying that new roads will be opened in Cochabamba, Santa Cruz and Pando departments during September.
