Bolivia readying new enhanced oil recovery phase

Bolivia’s state hydrocarbons company YPFB plans to begin a second phase of an enhanced oil recovery (EOR) program in the coming months.

“Bolivia has more than 71 fields in operation (gas and oil), 29% of them are oilfields with a long history of production… the next step in the cycle of exploitation of the fields, are studies to implement in the field the injection of chemicals for improved oil recovery,” according to the operator.

To this end, YPFB launched bidding to design a chemical EOR pilot test at an oilfield in a bid to increase the recovery factor and attenuate the decline curve.

Offers for the 360-day contract are due by July 21, according to procurement information available in the Documents box in the upper right corner.

Last year, the company signed a deal with Beicip Franlab to conduct first phase EOR studies.

In an optimistic scenario, the hydrocarbons and energy ministry forecasts that liquids production this year will average 33,710b/d versus 39,000b/d in 2022.
