BP plans new exploration campaign off Brazil’s coast
BP plans to start a new exploration campaign off Brazil’s coast in 2025, the UK company told BNamericas through its press office.
The work will be carried out in the Bumerangue block in the Santos basin pre-salt.
The asset was acquired by BP at Brazil’s first open acreage production sharing round, held by oil and gas watchdog ANP in December 2022.
BP paid a signing bonus of 8.9bn reais (currently US$1.6bn) for the block.
In Brazil, besides Bumerangue, BP operates the Pau Brasil and Tupinambá production sharing blocks, which are also located in the Santos basin.
The company is currently drilling the wildcat well 1-BP-12D-SPS in Pau Brasil, in waters 2,283m deep, with the Valaris Renaissance rig.
BP also operates the Barreirinhas basin concession block BAR-M-346, in the Equatorial Margin.
And it holds stakes, as a partner, in blocks BM-BAR-3 and BAR-M-175, in Barreirinhas, and C-M-477 and Alto de Cabo Frio Central in the Campos basin.
