Brazil approves 12 green hydrogen project proposals
Brazil’s mines and energy ministry MME approved 12 proposals for the development of low-carbon hydrogen hubs, as part of the national hydrogen policy PNH2.
Grupo Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) received the highest score (87.8%) for a project for Rio de Janeiro state.
The company recently announced a partnership with Petrobras to build a green hydrogen plant in Paraná state.
CSN was followed by EDP Renováveis with an undertaking in Ceará, Neoenergia in Bahia; Atlas Agro, in Minas Gerais; Petrobras (São Paulo), Prumo Logística (Rio de Janeiro), Copel-GET (Paraná), Solatio Holding (São Paulo), Eletrobras (São Paulo), Cemig (Minas Gerais), Ecohydrogen Energy (Bahia), and Suape Complexo Industrial Portuário (Pernambuco).
The MME's technical team took into account technical, financial and potential aspects of the hub project, which included the volume of hydrogen produced and an indication of the industrial use of the hydrogen to be produced with a focus on decarbonization.
Also considered was the location of the project – whether in an industrial hub or port area, the indication of a buyer, R&D actions, environmental aspects and the number of partners involved in the proposal.
The best evaluated project proposals will be able to compete for resources from the international Climate Investment Funds – Industry Decarbonization CIF-ID, in which Brazil is taking part under the coordination of the ministry of finance's secretariat for international affairs (SAIN), with the participation of the MME and industry and trade development ministry MDIC.
