Brazil authorizes local firm to commercialize natural gas

Brazil’s oil and gas regulator ANP has authorized MTX Comercializadora de Gás to commercialize natural gas. 

MTX is a subsidiary of Matrix Energia, an integrated platform for energy-saving solutions. 

At the end of August, the ANP authorized MTX to import natural gas from Argentina and Bolivia to supply Brazil’s southeast, mid-west, north and northeast. The authorization is valid for two years.

The commercialization authorization, also valid for two years, covers up to 10 million cubic meters per day via a pipeline with a delivery point in Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul state, and Uruguaiana, in Rio Grande do Sul.  

ENERGY INTEGRATION

Gas negotiations between Brazil, Bolivia and Argentina have been intensifying in recent months, including the possibility of having Bolivia, whose gas reserves are declining, acting also as a midstream agent. 

The conversations include the option of directly purchasing gas from Bolivia, without the intermediation of Brazil’s federal oil company Petrobras. 

Álvaro Ríos, managing partner at consultancy Gas Energy Latin America, told BNamericas recently that Argentine gas fulfills all the conditions to reach Brazil at a competitive price via Bolivia.
