Brazil fuel sales dip in 2015

Brazil's hydrocarbons regulator ANP reported that fuel sales last year fell 1.9% to 142Bl.

In a statement, the watchdog highlighted a 4.7% drop in diesel sales to 57.2Bl and a 7.3% dip in gasoline sales to 41.1Bl.

Offtake of biofuel spiked, with biodiesel and ethanol sales up 17.4% and 19.6%, respectively, to 4.01Bl and 28.8Bl.

ANP attributed the biodiesel jump to the 7% admixture in place for all of 2015. The mix increased to 6% from 5% in July 2014 and 7% in November of that year.

The government's 10-year energy plan, approved in December, envisions ethanol production rising to 43.9Mm3/d from 28.5Mm3/d.

Other fuels that recorded lower sales were LPG (-1.2% to 13.2Bl), aviation (-1.5% to 7.36Bl), fuel oil (-20.4% to 4.93Bl) and VNG (-2.8% to 4.82Mm3/d).

In a presentation, ANP also pointed to a 3.7% increase in the number of fuel suppliers, distributors, retailers and others to 118,201.
