Brazil grants license for New Fortress Energy’s LNG terminal

Bnamericas

The IMA environmental regulator in Brazil’s Santa Catarina state issued an environmental operating license on Monday for New Fortress Energy's (NFE) Gás Sul liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal TGS

The license is valid for 48 months.

Located in the city of São Francisco do Sul on Babitonga bay, TGS is made up of a floating LNG storage and regasification unit (FSRU), a marine terminal, a 33km pipeline with subsea and land sections and a custody transfer station (ETC) in Garuva.

The FSRU will have the capacity to store 138,000m³ of LNG and regasify up to 15Mm³/d, which will then be distributed to consumers and support the development of local industries such as ceramics, metal-mechanics and glass.

In addition, the project, which has already signed a contract with TBG, which operates the Bolivia-Brazil gas pipeline Gasbol, to supply the fuel, will also be an option for supplying the demand of thermoelectric plants near the region.

Through its press office, NFE told BNamericas that it has all the necessary documentation, routines and procedures in place to operate and that the start of the gas supply will follow the demand of its customers.

NFE also operates an LNG terminal in Barcarena, Pará state, also with the capacity to regasify 15Mm³/d.
