Brazil launches bidding for 4 port terminals
Concessions for four port terminals will be auctioned by the Brazilian government on August 13, according to bidding notices published this week.
The Antaq waterway transport agency, which regulates the sector, expects investments of over 150mn-reais (US$30mn) in the terminals.
On Thursday, Antaq published public notices for the MCP02 cargo terminal in the city of Santana, in northern Amapá state; the MUC01 wheat handling terminal in Mucuripe (Ceará state); and the MAC14 lumber industry waste cargo terminal in Maceió (Alagoas). On Friday, it published the notice for area SSD09 for general cargo handling in Salvador (Bahia).
All areas qualify under the Investment Partnership Program, which brings together a wide range of privatizations, public-private partnerships and concessions to promote private investment in Brazilian public assets.
The following are brief descriptions of each terminal.
SSD09: Leasing of a port terminal for handling and storing general cargo in the port of Salvador, capital of Bahia. Investments of approximately 30mn reais are expected during the 10-year concession to operate the terminal.
MAC14: Leasing of a port terminal handling general cargo, especially logs and wood chips in the Port of Maceio, capital of Alagoas. An investment of more than 52mn reais is expected during the 15-year contract.
MCP02: A port terminal dedicated to the moving and storage of solid vegetal bulk, especially soybean meal, in the Port of Santana. Investments of 41mn reais expected during the 25-year contract.
MUC01: A terminal handling vegetable bulk, especially wheat, in the port of Mucuripe. Investments of approximately 57mn reais during the 25-year contract to operate the terminal.
