Brazil opens consultation on antennas with a view to 5G

Bnamericas

Brazilian telecom regulator Anatel launched a public consultation on a new regulation for radio base stations with a view to 5G technology.

Anatel will receive contributions until April 26 on its website.

Radio base stations, commonly called cellular antennas, include the tower, antennas themselves, and additional equipment such as power generators.

The consultation is a proposal to update the technical requirements and test procedures of radio base stations to include criteria for AAS (active antenna system) technology certification.

Among the reported advantages of the technology is a better adjustment of the stations to the location of users' cell phones.

According to Anatel, AAS equipment will be important for LTE technology and the introduction of 5G.

The consultation can be accessed here.
