Brazil plans US$1.2bn highway auction for November

Bnamericas

The Brazilian transport ministry approved a plan to offer a highway concession contract that will demand investments of around 6.8 billion reais (US$1.23bn).

The stretch will be offered in the form of a single contract and comprises a 502.8km extension of highways BR-060 and BR-364 in Goiás and Mato Grosso states, the ministry said in a release.

The stretch connects Rio Verde in Goiás with Rondonópolis in Mato Grosso, which are both key agriculture hubs for their respective states.

The tender notice must now be authorized by the country's audit court (TCU) before being published.

The ministry said it plans to hold the auction for the 30-year contract in November.

The concession’s main works are widening of 45.6km and the construction of nearly 180km of additional lanes.

As the concession is subject to authorization by TCU, the government has not yet included it in the auction agenda for the second half.

FUNDS FOR ALAGOAS ROAD WORKS

Separately, the ministry authorized the release of nearly 270 million reais for road works in Alagoas state.

Some 240mn reais will be for the widening of highway BR-424, which is known as the Maceió metropolitan beltway. The publication of a tender process for the works was also approved.

The rest of the funds will be used for maintenance works on highways BR-316/AL and BR-424/AL, to improve an extension of 132.6km.
