Brazil puts up US$130mn for water projects
The Brazilian government released 714 million reais (US$130mn) to finance water projects in five municipalities.
The funds were authorized by the cities' ministry and will come from the country's federal unemployment insurance fund, the FGTS.
Of the total, São José do Rio Preto, a municipality in São Paulo state, will obtain 649mn reais to build a new water capture system.
Another 65mn reais will go to projects in four other municipalities.
The initiatives will expand and improve the water supply systems in Ribas do Rio Pardo and Chapadão do Sul, in Mato Grosso do Sul state, and expand the sewage systems in Joaquim Távora and Mangueirinha, in Paraná state.
The works in Paraná will be performed by state-run water firm Sanepar, while in Mato Grosso do Sul they will be carried out by water company Sanesul.
