Brazil telecom, media M&As soar
There were 11 mergers and acquisitions between media and telecommunications companies in Brazil in the second quarter this year, compared to just one in the same period 2018.
Of the transactions, five involved only Brazilian companies and six were foreign companies buying firms established in Brazil, according to KPMG.
Despite the strong growth, telecom and media continue to underperform sectors such as internet and IT.
Brazil saw 543 M&As in the first half, 340 of which involved only local companies, compared to 461 and 232 a year earlier, the consultancy firm said,
Of the H1 total, 116 were in the internet segment and 61 in IT. Telecoms and media transaction came sixth with 24.
