Brazil to invest over US$1bn to build universities and hospitals

The Brazilian government announced a plan to invest 5.5bn reais (US$1.03bn) to build and upgrade public universities and hospitals.

The funds will be invested in the construction of 10 new campuses, spread across the country’s five regions, and infrastructure improvements to all 69 federal universities, according to a statement.

The government will also use the funds to improve 31 university hospitals and construct eight new ones.

University hospitals in Brazil are used to train students and serve people who use the public healthcare system.

The planned investments will be included in federal investment program PAC.
