Brazil to invest US$140mn in Rio de Janeiro airport, port works

Brazil's government will invest 800 million reais (US$140mn) in airport and port infrastructure in Rio de Janeiro.

Of the total, 400mn reais will be invested in Santos Dumont airport over the next three years to meet growing demand, improve safety and agility of ground traffic, and to modernize the terminal.

“We are now beginning this major investment plan here at Santos Dumont, which will improve the entire airport infrastructure, so that we can increasingly welcome tourists who come to Rio de Janeiro,” ports and airports minister Silvio Costa Filho said in a statement.

Another 400mn reais were earmarked for dredging at Rio de Janeiro port to enable it to handle larger ships and to prepare it for extreme weather conditions.
